Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions worldwide. There are more than half a million people with epilepsy in the UK alone. Around 600 people living with epilepsy die each year due to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Every death due to SUDEP is thought to be potentially avoidable. People living with epilepsy will feel and behave in different ways, depending on where their seizure begins and how rapidly it spreads. But in thirty percent of cases, the seizures cannot be stopped by current treatments. Working together, clinicians and researchers at the Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre aim to gain a better understanding of epilepsy and, in turn, develop new prevention strategies and treatments. They aspire to revolutionise research and clinical care in epilepsy on an unprecedented scale in the UK and beyond. This can only be done this thanks to kind supporters like you. Your generous donation to the Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre at the University of Edinburgh will directly help improve the prognosis for people living with epilepsy – thank you.
